Overview - This workshop will assist those with some background in Schema Therapy in developing and fine-tuning their skills. The workshop seeks to build confidence and skills in implementation of schema treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), presentations involving Narcissism and overcompensation, as well as Cluster C personality disorders. Implications and approach for treatment of chronic (axis 1) presentations will be covered (e.g. Chronic Depression, Eating Disorders). Participants will have extensive opportunity to practice experiential exercises such as Imagery Rescripting and Chairwork dialogues. In addition, time will be allocated to commonly experienced difficulties in working with strong detached protector and inner critic (Parent) modes.
Please note, the workshop is limited in size to allow for optimal coaching and feedback. This workshop will have 1 presenter to 18- 20 people.
Day One • Theory and conceptual model and Schema Therapy reviewed • Schema Modes Defined • Schema Therapy Cognitive Techniques for change • Schema Mode Borderline Personality Formulation • Specific methods to bypass Detached Protector • Use of Historical Role Play (experiential technique).
Day 2 and 3 • Fine Tuning and Specialist Skills • Overcompensation Modes • Use of chairwork exercise in mode work • Limited Reparenting- review and Fine Tuning • Limited Reparenting - Fine-Tuning Attunement skills • Imagery Rescripting - Window of tolerance • Imagery Rescripting - Working with Different Antagonists and Troubleshooting • Working with Angry Child Mode • Narcissistic Personality Disorder • Empathic Confrontation • Therapist’s own Schemas - Reflection • Intro to Schema Therapy Competency Scale • Breaking through common therapeutic impasses.
