Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) is an attachment-based, accelerated
form of psychodynamic psychotherapy, that aims to rapidly identify the underlying
emotional conflict that results in psychological symptoms and suffering. It seeks to keep
anxiety regulated while actively addressing resistance, to gain access to the unconscious
attachment trauma, that perpetuates suffering in the present.

This training will focus on patients in the System of Repression who suffer from complaints
such as depression, somatic complaints including Functional Neurological Disorder (FND),
and ego deficits with video of a therapy with a patient with treatment-resistant Pre-
Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) shown.
Refined through empirical, video-recorded research, ISTDP is more active and focused than
the traditional psychodynamic psychotherapy. It has been shown to be effective in the
treatment of anxiety, depression, character disorders, somatization and functional
neurological disorder. It aims to provide not only symptom relief, but also personality
restructuring.

This workshop is provided by Melbourne-based Clinical Psychologist, Julie Cochrane who has
practiced ISTDP for 28years and has taught ISTDP in Australia, NZ, India, Iran, Israel,
Malaysia, Portugal and Turkey.

This workshop is open for registered mental health professionals, including psychiatrists,
psychologists, psychotherapists, social workers and registered counsellors.
