Perspectives on Clinical Supervision

Speakers: Carolin Ritter, Fran Vertue, Kathryn Whitehead

Date/Time:  Friday 26 November, 1 - 4pm

Venue:  Room 252, Sociology Theatrette, Psychology Building, Level 2, University of Canterbury (unless we are in level 2, in which case it will be via Zoom)

Carolin is a clinical psychologist and clinical educator at the University of Canterbury, where she teaches and supervises clinical psychology students. She is interested in the supervisory experience of students and factors that enhance their learning and self-reflective capacity. For this presentation, Carolin will focus on the supervision of students and related supervision models.

Fran is a clinical psychologist who has worked in settings including academia, the Family Court, the Department of Corrections, community mental health, and private practice. Supervision has been a specific interest of hers for many years and in this presentation, Fran will focus on topics that will extend the repertoire of experienced supervisors such as cultural humility and snarly ethical issues that are not simply resolved.

Kathryn is a consultant clinical psychologist in private practice who has supervised psychologists with a range of experience, as well as providing supervision for nurses, occupational therapists, doctors and social workers. This diversity of practice will be a key focus of Kathryn's presentation, along with potential pitfalls and the need to develop professionally cross-cultural skills.
