Bio: Virginia is a registered Clinical Psychologist specialising in alcohol and drug problems, drink driving, depression, anxiety related disorders (including performance anxiety and stress), and coping with physical illness.
Her areas of expertise reflect her wide-ranging interests; before graduating from Auckland University as a Doctor of Clinical Psychology, she completed degrees in Science, Arts and Music.
Virginia is the Clinical Advisor for the Waitemata District Health Board’s Community Alcohol and Drugs Services (CADS). As an academic, she coordinates and lectures ‘Musicians’ Health’, an interdisciplinary paper between Medical Health and Sciences and The School of Music.
In private practice, she provides comprehensive psychological assessments based on a Cognitive Behavioural Model. An assessment forms the foundation of a client’s treatment plan and is designed to help the client achieve their desired therapy goals. Virginia’s approach to therapy is evidence-based and includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-based Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy. Virginia is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of trainers, and is skilled as a trainer and facilitator of MI in groups work.
