About

Rachel Moriarty is a clinical psychologist, with over 25 years’ experience working with adults and young adults. She has worked in a variety of mental health settings including in the public hospital setting, primary health, private practice, and in government contracts. She has worked in both specialist settings e.g. maternal mental health, young adult mental health/Piki psychology and generalist settings like community mental health teams and private practice. Rachel uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as her main approach but also draws from EMDR, ACT, DBT and Compassion focussed therapy. Rachel is also the manager of a suicide prevention service that supports Social Workers and rangatahi in Oranga Tamariki care (in Te Aho) and has been working in the suicide prevention and postvention field for over 20 years. She is interested in supporting people bereaved by suicide. Rachel is not resourced to work with people with recent suicidal behaviour or active suicidal risk. She is a strong advocate for clinical supervision; both providing clinical supervision and being involved with Clinical Supervision training at Te Whatu Ora. Rachel has a current practicing certificate and is a Fellow of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists. She has lived experience of mental health disorder and recovery.
