About
Tracey Barnfield (she, her) is a clinical psychologist with 25+ years of experience in private practice. She has worked in a range of clinical roles including mental health inpatient units, community mental health services, a Consultation Liaison Psychiatry service, and a suicide prevention programme targeting at-risk youth. Tracey currently works only with adults and provides individual therapy, clinical supervision and training workshops. Her clinical work has involved providing psychology assessment and treatment services for people with a range of mental health disorders and with psychological symptoms secondary to major medical symptoms and conditions. Tracey has a special interest in working with people experiencing sleep problems, depression, anxiety disorders, and assisting with rehabilitation from illness and accidents (particularly brain injury). Tracey is a member of the Australasian Sleep Association and has expertise in evidence-based treatments for insomnia and sleep phase disorders. She is a fellow of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists. Tracey has completed advanced training workshops with international experts in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and other evidence based therapies.
Tracey has experience with research and teaching and worked part time as a Lecturer at the University of Otago Wellington School of Medicine and Health Sciences for seven years. During this time, she helped develop a post graduate course in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and worked as the course director, and has also developed and delivered specialist training in evidenced based therapies for mental health professionals, for overseas trained medical doctors, medical students, and psychiatric registrars. She has evaluated a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy training course and evaluated aspects of medical training. She has presented at international conferences and has published articles in internationally referred journals. She continues to teach on the CBT course at Otago University as a contractor, to help her keep up to date with the research literature.
