Te Aho delivers national services in suicide prevention and postvention through a passionate and skilled team based across Aotearoa. Te Aho is seeking experienced Clinical Advisors to join our Te Oranga Tonutanga - Towards Wellbeing (TWB) service.
About the Role:
Our team works remotely with Oranga Tamariki (OT) social workers to support the wellbeing of rangatahi on their caseloads where there are concerns about suicide risk. The programme’s aim is to enhance wellbeing in rangatahi and reduce both current and future suicide risk factors for young people.
Our work focuses on identifying and responding to both acute and chronic suicide risk, supporting OT social workers to strengthen their understanding and confidence in managing these situations.
Clinical Advisors are experienced mental health clinicians with specialist knowledge in working with high-risk rangatahi and in developing, formulating, and reviewing risk assessments and management plans. Based around Aotearoa, each Clinical Advisor is allocated specific OT sites and caseloads, maintaining regular contact with social workers primarily via phone and email. This model ensures all OT sites have easy access to specialist consultation, advice, and support. The role also includes delivering training to new and existing OT social workers, including residence teams.
This mahi is undertaken remotely from a base of your choosing, with a reliable high-speed internet connection. This is a contracted role for 16 hours per week, 48 weeks per year.
Ideal applicants will:
• Have a strong professional background in mental health, with demonstrated experience in suicide risk assessment, formulation and management with rangatahi
• Be registered health professional (psychology, social work, occupational therapy or nursing) with sound knowledge of and adherence to your professional code of ethics
• Bring excellent interpersonal skills and respect for different multidisciplinary perspectives
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including upholding tino rangatiratanga in practice
• Enjoy working collaboratively in a consultative and supervisory capacity
• Have strong training facilitation skills
• Be flexible, organised, and comfortable managing a varied workload
• Have strong communication skills, both written and oral
• Be confident using IT systems and databases, and quick to learn new platforms
• Be available to travel. Travel is required across the country, to deliver training to OT social workers, meet with sites, and to attend team hui (typically in Auckland or Wellington).
